120 Years on – New Junction reopens

October 21, 1901 saw the Midland Oval and Recreation Reserve officially opened by His Worship The Mayor of Midland Junction, Dr William Elgee, with a commemorative tree planting ceremony and day of sports activities on the Oval. The commemorative tree planting ceremony involved Mayor William and Mayoress Amy Elgee planting either side of the Oval’s entrance at The Avenue (now Junction Parade).

On Saturday 30 October 2021, 120 years on, the Oval celebrates its redevelopment with the Kambarang Festival.

This is a brand new event that celebrates the traditions of the Noongar nations residents of Midland, showcases their art, culture and practices and seeks to heal country, restore nature and connect community.

From 1-8pm on Saturday 30 October, the Kambarang Festival will commence in the Locale precinct of Midland and culminate with the official opening of Weeip Park at 6.25pm by the City of Swan Mayor and a performance from the Perth Symphony Orchestra.
